Bundesliga, Matchday 29
Eintracht defeated by new league leaders

The Eagles lost 4-0 at Borussia Dortmund on Bundesliga Matchday 29.

Oliver Glasner made three changes to his line-up in the wake of the 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend. Mario Götze returned to attacking midfield following suspension, while Junior Dina Ebimbe and Ansgar Knauff also started. Kristijan Jakic missed out with injury as Daichi Kamada and Rafael Borré began among the substitutes.

Clinical hosts

The Eagles began on the front foot, determined to bring an end to their seven-game winless sequence in the Bundesliga. Götze looked lively against his former club and Randal Kolo Muani's pace and direct running caused the home team some problems early on, but momentum shifted Dortmund's way on 19 minutes when Jude Bellingham opened the scoring on the turn from 12 yards out.

Dortmund made it 2-0 a short while later when former Frankfurt forward Sébastien Haller flicked a long ball forward on to Karim Adeyemi, who in turn headed into Donyell Malen's path to score from close range. Kevin Trapp thwarted Adeyemi with a fine save moments later before Eintracht enjoyed a spell of pressure, but Götze fired agonisingly wide of the post and Kolo Muani and Dina Ebimbe were denied by Gregor Kobel. A Mats Hummels header moments before the interval increased Dortmund's lead even further.

No way through

The introductions of Kamada and Borré early in the second half brought some fresh ideas to Eintracht's forward advances, but the Eagles still struggled to create any clear-cut chances as they sought a foothold back into the game. Kolo Muani had a shot blocked and Kamada fired over on the rebound in the 66th minute as Glasner's charges tried to force the issue, only for Dortmund to score their fourth just a few seconds later.

Adeyemi broke forward and played the ball to his right for Malen, who slotted in his second of the game. It was not to be for Eintracht on a day when the ball simply would not go in, but one bright note from a Frankfurt perspective was the sight of teenager Dario Gebuhr making his Bundesliga debut when he replaced Makoto Hasebe in the 71st minute, slotting in on the right-hand side of the three-man rearguard.

SGE line-up

Trapp – Tuta, Hasebe (Gebuhr 71'), Lenz – Buta, Rode (Borré 52'), Sow, Knauff (Kamada 46') – Dina Ebimbe (Alidou 84'), Götze – Kolo Muani (Aaronson 70')

Goals:

1-0 Bellingham (19')
2-0 Malen (24')
3-0 Hummels (41')
4-0 Malen (66')
